FAQ

Can anyone have massage treatment?

Almost everyone can benefit from massage therapy, however your health and well-being are my priority . If you are currently undergoing hospital treatment or on certain prescribed medication I would with your permission gain your GP or consultants consent before commencing massage therapy.

It is inadvisable to receive massage therapy if you have or suffer from any of the following:

  • Fever or running a high temperature
  • Contagious or infectious diseases including colds and flu
  • Under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  •
  • Recent operations or acute injuries

Please call me to discuss any worries or concerns you may have about receiving massage therapy. Please rest assured that should the start of your treatment be delayed due to the above reasons it is because your health and safety are my priority and I will not put you at risk at any time.

What should I expect from a treatment?

An initial treatment will include a 30-minute consultation, free of charge and completely confidential, so I can assess your needs. During this time we will discuss your expectations and agree together the best massage treatment for you. I will explain the strokes I will use and answer any questions or concerns you may have. I will leave the room so you can remove the appropriate clothing (gowns and towels are provided). Once you are covered I will re-enter the room and ensure you are comfortable before commencing the massage. After the massage you are under no pressure to leave, I actively encourage you to allow yourself to lay on the couch and get up in your own time. I will leave the room to allow you to dress in privacy. Fresh drinking water is always provided in the room.

 What happens after the massage?

After your treatment we will sit and discuss how you are feeling and that you are happy with the massage. I will discuss aftercare advice with you and provide you with an aftercare advice leaflet to take home. I may also suggest mobility exercises for you to try at home to support the effects of the massage treatment, a leaflet explaining the exercises will again be provided for you.

It is perfectly normal to experience some of the following symptoms after  your massage:

  • Increased thirst
  • increased urination
  • headache
  • disturbed sleep, though most people report having the best night's sleep they've had in a long time!
  • aching muscles, which is the result of the lactic acid that has built up in the muscles being released by the massage. Generally this will improve 3-4 days after your massage

With regular massage therapy these symptoms will decrease as  the toxic build up in your body clears.
